Leadership in the School Environment: The Dynamics Behind the Decisions (Double Session)

Schools are complex organizations. Therefore leadership requires more than just traits and defining reasons for change. An understanding of the school environment is essential to being an effective agent of change in a school. This session guides you through a process to analyze the organizational structure of your school and assist you to understand the dynamics behind administrative decisions. Activities during the session will reinforce the concepts presented. This workshop will enable participants to understand what circumstances determine which approach to take when presenting library program needs and initiatives.

Ann M. Martin is currently the Educational Specialist for Library Information Services for Henrico County Public Schools in Richmond, Virginia. She is President of the American Association of School Librarians (AASL), a Virginia Educational Media Association Past President, and an American Association of School Librarians board member. Ann is author of Seven Steps to an Award-Winning School Library Program by Libraries Unlimited.
